Course Information

COURSE CHANGES
Swim Course.  The course will be the same as last year with one big change, a new dock.  We are working with the Cleveland Rowing Foundation who will bring in their much wider, longer, and more stable dock than last year.  The swim courses for the Super Sprint and Sprint are inside the harbor while the Olympic Course goes into the channel.  Same configurations as last year.

Cycle Course.  No changes from last year.  Same configurations for all courses, again maps are up.

Run Course and Finish.  The big change here is the finish.  We will now be finishing just north of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, just west of the skate area on the pavers.  The final section of the run will be on those pavers after going north of Cleveland Stadium on W. 3rd and north of the Great Lakes Science Center along the perimeter of the harbor.  The final section goes under the overhang of the Rock Hall to the Finish.

The post race area will be at Voinovich Park. The Cleveland Triathlon will now be in a very tight footprint, excellent for spectators and focusing the energy in one small location for the participants.  We are very much looking forward to the new concept.

Start: North Coast Harbor
Finish: Just south of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Erieside.

Cleveland Triathlon Transition Area

This is the road leading into and out of the transition area. You will come up this road at the start of the bike, back down into the transition to finish the bike, up the road again to start the run and the finish line is to the left (in front of the Science Center). The transition area is first come, first served and bike racks will be set up by event (i.e. Super Sprint, Olympic, etc.) There is no riding in the transition area or over the transponder mats. You will be told to DISMOUNT BIKE and MOUNT BIKE. Follow these instructions. Your foot with the transponder anklet must touch the transponder mats in order to receive any split times. The Memorial Shoreway is completely closed to vehicular traffic and extremely wide for a triathlon course. It is not, however, a perfect surface. You should ride with caution and be aware of any imperfection in the roadway.

Climate

Cleveland's weather follows seasonal midwest USA patterns with a moderating lake effect. Lake Erie plays a major role in offsetting severe summer heat waves, insuring that Cleveland has fewer days above 90 degrees farenheit than most northern USA cities. Typical July temperatures are around 84 degrees. The average water temperature of Lake Erie is 72 degrees in July. Humidity at this time is approximately 70%.
